Jan Marchant began her career at Topshop in 1980, progressing from allocator/assistant buyer to buyer of outerwear and tailoring, before moving into senior buying roles at Etam, Butterfly Garments and Mackays. After a career break, she joined Tesco in 2002 as a temporary boys' clothing buyer, just a year after the launch of F&F, and went on to hold a series of increasingly senior positions within the brand, including head of kidswear buying, buying director, design director, and creative and digital director. Marchant became CEO of F&F in 2020, before being appointed managing director of home and clothing at Tesco in 2022. Under her leadership, F&F has strengthened its position as one of the UK's leading womenswear retailers by market share, relaunched online, and introduced digital product passports, making it one of the first UK clothing retailers to do so. Marchant is known for championing flexibility for working parents throughout her career. In February 2025 she announced her retirement after almost 20 years at the heart of Tesco's fashion business, and in November was recognised with the Lifetime Achievement accolade at Drapers Awards.
